INFANTICIDE.
Per Press Association. WOODVILLE, June 18. The Magistrate's Court was occupied the whole of the day m hearing' ;i a charge of alleged - murder of, a-newly-born baby against Alice MaudefSh'epberd, a- domestic servant>... living \at Mangatoro, near Daniievirker'aha John Olme, roadman for the Dannevirke county. The body of a newly-born baby was found m a bag m the WootTvillo town sewer early m the month, with a string tied tightly around the neck. Two doctors testified that the child had lived, and had met its death by strangulation. !; A Woodvillo witness • identified the bag and wrappings m which the body was found as having been purchased by the male accused. Other witnesses testified to their having stayed! :in Woodville together last month. Detective Butler: testified to a confessidni by the female accused to the effect that she had tied 'the' string Ground ihe child's neck, and his evidence was corroborated by: Sergeant Criiickshank.' Accused reserved their defence, and were committed for - trial;, at-^Napier next week. i <■■
