FREE SCHOOL BOOKS.

DUNEDIN, June 17. . At a meeting of the Education Board to-day, the question of free school book came up for discussion.. After considering reports by Mr Petrie, chief inspector at Auckland, and Mr Goyen,. chief inspector m Otago, the Board decided to endorse the opinion expressed 1 by the Auckland Board, and intimated' its readiness to co-operate with that Board m. making representations toi the Minister. A motion was also carried to the following effect: "That further enquiry having clearly established the fact that the grant made by theDepartmont for. the purpose- of providing free class books is insufficient tomeet reasonable requirements, th& Board nfolve that unless condition SJ be modi^sd, it cannot take adv'aatw». of the fojer." *^ / -- ■ -
