One of the primest finished lines of stock that, has been yarded at the Ashburton stock market for some time was offered on Tuesday by Messrs Friedlander Bros., on account of Mr Alexander Kidd, of Winchmore road. This was a line of ten crossbred wethers, which realised the handsome price'3of 20s 3d each, showing that it pays farmers to offer their stock m prime condition. A line of crossbred ewes from the same farm made 12s 6d, which is at least 2s m excess of rates ruling for medium quality stopk. The buyers were Messrs Sims, Cooper and Co., Christchurch. The Auckland Rugby Union pays for repairs to the teeth of players injured m playing matches, but it pays only such expenses■■ as 'seem reasonable to the committee. On Monday night the Union decided that gold fillings were not reasonable. A player who had had a front tooth chipped forwarded a dentist's bill fop one guinea, and the Union committee decided to offer him half a guinea and suggest that he should pay the rest of the amount himself. A Press Association telegram from Eltham states that at the local Police Court on Tuesday a young man named Berti Lyons, alias Henry Davis, was brought up on-foiir charges of theft m a boarding-house at Eltham, and .was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. Accused, who was arrested at Wanganui, had three previous convictions for similar offences, and is now wanted at Hamilton, where he will be brought up to answer charges of forgery and theft.
