AN IDYLLIC INCIDENT AT THE SHOW.
Exhibitors' and judges' ideas of merit vary considerably at times, and the position of a judge is not always an enviable one. An exhibitor in the cookery section at the recent show became very irate on Friday after the judges had given their awards, for her exhibits had not even received a ticket of commendation. Addressing everyone—acquaintances or strangers —who happened to approach anywhere near the cookery section, the exhibitor in question proceeded to heap contumely on the head of the absent judge. "Look at my scones and cakes," she persisted in saying, meanwhile catchi ing hold of the arms or shoulders of those who happened to be in the rooni, and literally dragging them to the cookery table; "and compare them with those that have been placed first, i In the way of excellence," she screeched, "they are not in the same street. My scones have been made from flour and water, and if the judge had any gumption about him he must have seen that those scones have been made with butter and sugar. I am not going to allow this injustice to go by unnoticed, for I mean to lodge a protest. My scones and cakes should have been placed first, and if I could only get at - them I would take them home, away from contact with such commonplace samples of cookery I" At the first opportunity the reporter who was thus addressed made a bolt for liberty, whereupon the exhibitor transferred her attention to another xinsuspecting observer.
