A BABY OF TWENTY-THREE.
A wonderful development has taken place during the past three months m the ■condition of Mildred .Hart,, .the Devonshire girl who stoppeiT growing when she was five' and did;not;'start again till she was nearly,, twentythree. Last autumn, before she was; sent to London for treatment, she had the appearance of a dull and r heavy child of five. Her .vocabulary ' was' limited to fewer thari'a dozen words. When she" returned after a two months' treatment of thyroid extract, she had grown several inches and was most vivacious . Progress since then ' has been more than maintained. Eyes that were dull and heavy are now bright and full of expression, hair that was stiff and hard is now soft"; and shiny, limbs that were shapeless. are now of normal appearance. She .is four inches taller than when she returned from London. There is a most intelligent look m hop bliie eyes, and she is full of chatter and smiles. Her mother said that before the gjrl began to grow she did not seom to rknow how to cry. Now she occasionally has recourse to tears. Whereas she was formerly most fastidious she now has an extraordinary appetite. When not out of doors she takes her share m light domestic duties. She is fond of music, and is often to be heard humming tunes lier parents do not know. She has a passion, too, for anything concerning clothes, and begins to talk about making somp foy h.or«ejf,
