Cox passed sharp criticisms on the Budget, particularly the liquor licenses and land taxes. Mr Bottomleny suggested a. transfer stamp on stocks and shares, and said that it would realise 20, millions per annum. Mr Prettyman; m dealing with the , impossibility of estimating xi'nworked minerals, instanced Rosyth, where the Admiralty had . paid Lord Linlithgow £15,000, and had since ' quarried £100,000 worth of stone-, not a tenth of which had yet been taken out.
