WELLINGTON, June 7. A meeting of the executive of the Legislation Committee of the Municipal Association was held to-day. Various recommendations were" adopted. It was resolved : —(1) That the present method of voting by making a cross shouldbe replaced ,by the simpler method - of. drawing a ■ line through the name ; (2) that upon a vacancy occurring,.in the. Council.,during six months prior to the biennial election the Council shall have power to fill the vacancy ; (3) that, the present method of payment of Commissioners for local investment yields better results than if invested by the Public Trustee m Governmerit securities ; (4) that the Association oppose & proposal to perniit auctioneers to- • appoint substitute holders of their licenses ; (5) that the question. of; establishing a joint superannuation fund shall be deferred until next, conference ; (6) that the Government be requested to bring. m legislation providing that the Crown shall pay rates on properties taken by the ■ Government until- a reliable occupier comes- into occupation ;. (7) that the attention of the Government be drawn.to the fact that where educational reserves are leased for short periods; the loral authority cannot levy rates, 'ancLithe Government should introduce legislation under which it would pay rates on these reserves ; (8) j Ithat an additional charge of 10 per cent, should become payable after six months from the' date upon which the rates first, become recoverable, irrespective of 'whether they are sued for f^v not ; (9) that the Rating Act should be amended to provide for the amalgamation of rates levied oi'f>r the same J area on the same basis ; (10) that thej returning-officers supply the town-clerk with a markpd roll after each electtion.. to "enable, him to purge the roll pt tho /'ates fixed by the Municipal Corporations Act.
