THE WINTER SHOW.
Thanks to the courtesy of Messrs H. Matson and Co., Mr T. Bullock, and the tenants, the combined committee of the Ashburton Winter Show has again been fortunate enough to secure the Arcade and its annexes for the annual Winter Show on Friday and Saturday. . To-day workmen and a few of .the officials were busily engaged m effecting the necessary preparatory arrangements for the accommodation of exhibits, which, as has already been stated, are numerous and comprehensive. In addition to the Arcade and its annexes, the greater portion of Messsrs i. H. Choat and Co.'s auction room has also Leon secured, which will admit of tho entries being shown with full effectiveness. The committee intends to have the show well lighted, and full provision has been.made to improve several arrangemonts that were considered imperfect last year. The system instituted last year for the protection and safe custody of exhibits will be again adopted, and a ladies' cloak and retiring room m charge of an attendant will be one of a number of innovations. There will be a large display of implements, farm produce and other objects of interest to the farming comniunity; and, generally, there is every indication that the exhibition,' as a whole,, will compare favourable with the best of the former shows. • The three local bands have been engaged,, and will provide a full musical programme. Cheap fares have been arranged with the Railway Department, and all that appears to be needed to insure a successful exhibition is the continuance of fine weather. The show will be formally opened by the Mayor (Mr H. Davis), Mr John Lambie (chairman of the County Council), and others at 2 p.m. on Friday.
