HAMPSTEAD SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The ordinary meeting of the Hampstead School Committee was held last evening. Present—-Messrs W. Thompson (m the chair), D. Beaumont, 6. Bright, W. Lamb, G. Lamb, G. W. Andrews and J. Rumsey. The tender of Mr J. Tucker was accepted for a supply of coaj£and firewood and it was decided to leave the choice of coal m the hands of the headmaster. The Education Board wrote, stating that the Board's clerk of works had instructed the Foreman to oyerhaul the Hampstead school, and if such -works as came within the Board's province to deal with would be attended to.— Received. The Board of Education notified the committee that a sum of £77 3s 9d, representing the amount due for teachers' salaries for May, had been paid to the committee's account at the Union Bank.—Received.. The Education Board informed the committee that it had agreed, on the recommendation of its inspector, to appoint a probationer to the school. The figures given showed that there had been a steady increase m the average roll and attendance. Twenty-six pupils had been promoted from the Infant room to Lower Standard I. This had necessitated such adjustment of school furniture, etc., that any large meeting of ratepayers i or electors would have to be held/m the Headmaster's old room m future. It was suggested that an application be made to the Education Board for ! sky-lights for all rooms, except Miss Fawcett's, and for two lylo-plate blackboards. It was stated that the'present system of lighting was x altogether wrong, and that the light should come from the ends of the building and from thft ceiling.
