He reported to'the policft that during" last night burglars visited his residence at Randwick and attempted to break openhis safe. They bored partially through and .then their drill broke. A portion of it was found on the floor. The burglars secured nothing. Willis believes'that )the robbers were after certain papers and not valuables, as they loft .behind a quantity of silver plate.. They' obtained 'admittancethrough an unfastened window. The police are of opinion that it wasnot an expert cracksman's job.

Considerable mystery surrounds the case.. Willis says he was sandbagged and! stabbed, but his statements about tha affair do not appear to be very clear;.
