;... Mr Bates's weather forecast, as telegraphed to-day, is as follows: Westerly Strong winds to a gale; the barometer is likely to continue unsteady and low and the weather will probably be coldMr W. 'The Minister stated that he. wasi still working at the readjustment of' his Department, which was not yet complete. The County Council's acting-inspec-tor, is not slothful m business, and he has kept vigil over the traffic on the Ashburton traffic bridge to such good purpose that quite a large number of cyclists, who had crossed the bridge without having lamps attached to Choir bicycles,, were convicted at the Magistrate's Court to-day, and many of then ordered to pay fines. The acting-in-spector interprets the by-law m its strictest sense, and some who thought they were innocent looked a little surprised on learning that the by-law operates as soon a3 the sun sets. The dog classes at the Winter Show to be held next week will be well filled, about GO entries having been received. The entries do.licit close till to-night, and they are already exceptionally high. The usual weekly meeting of the Ashburton Catholic Club was held last evening, when Mr T. M.
