HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Committee was held this morning. Present—Messrs H. Davis (chairman), E. Gates, J. Lambie,, W. J. Dickie, D. Wood and C. Reid. The present cook at the hospital (Miss M. Jones) wrote tendering her resignation, which was accepted with regret, and the matter of refilling the position' 'Was left m the hands of the chairman. ■ A letter was read from the Superintendent of Electric Lines (Mr J. K. Logan), stating that the Government intended to abolish a free telephone connection with the hospital.—The. matter was loft m the hands of the chairman to attend to. ; „ Mr Lambie said he had been'asked by Mr John Studholme to refer to the necessity for having at the hospital an apparatus for administering oxygen, which m many instances was the'means | of saving life.. Mr Studholme also gave 10s as a subscription towards expenses. —It was decided'to thank Mr Studholme, and that his suggestion should be placed before the medical officers-of tho institution. > Messrs Wood and Reid were appointed a visiting committee for the month. ■A letter was read from Mr Thomas Brown, of the Strathmore Hospital, Christchurch, stating that, .as it was intended to close the institution, he had a full equipment of surgical instruments, etc., for sale.—The matter was left m the hands of the chairman to enquire into and report on at tho next meeting. Tenders were opened for the" erection of a shed at tho hospital to accommodate the ambulance waggon, and that of Mr W". Reid (£42)' was accepted. The supervision of the erection of the building was left m the hands of the chairman and Mr D. Wood, and the visiting committee was authorised to decide on the site of the building. Accounts amounting to £124 2s 3d were massed for payment, and after the transaction of other routine business the meeting adjourned.
