PUBLIC NOT J C ES. EXPLANATION AND APOLOGY. I, the undersigned, have been asked by H. Davis, Esq., Mayor of Ashburton, to make him an apology m connection with the remarks I made at the last meeting of the Asliburton County Council to the effect that I considered he should have been debarred from hearing the case, "The County Council v. C. Hobbs," as I understood that C Hobbs was a close relative of Mr -Davis, who has informed me that C. Hobbs is a nephew by marriage only, and is not a close relative of, his, and, if such is tho case, Mr Davis is quite entitled to an apology from me, and, on the understanding that Mr Da-vis's contention is correct, I willingly make such apology and express my regret, that I should have given offence to Mr Davis, which I had no intention of doing, but intended my remarks to pply to the general principle of such a case as I considered the one m question to be, and not to Mr Davis m particular. I 3 19 WILLIAM MORGAN.
