THE ULIMAROA.
A PROTEST.
DUNKDIN, February 2G. At the Harbour Board meeting, Mr Barclay (chairman) took exception to Die Press Association .-, telegram from Chmtcluirch, stating that the Ulimaroa had grounded in Otago harbouy and had been badly damaged,, and in coiigc-■.juenf.-o had to be docked at- Lyttelton. lie ridiculed the idea of the vorkcl grounding, and rend the following report from the harbourmaster: "As the damage to the Ulimavoa is turning -out to bo more serious tlirtn was at first anticipated, and in justice to the reputation of the harbour, I would like to point out to you the-amount of water and room there is at that particular part of the channel. The passage between the islands Is 360 feet Vide on the surface and over 300 feet wide at the bottom, with a depth of 90 feet." The continuation of the. report giving the harbourmaster's version of the probable cause of the mishap has not been made public, in view of the enquiry to be held.
