ABOUT AN ENCLOSURE.

To the Editor. Sir, —I shall be obliged if you will publish the following correspondence for the benefit of those whom it may concern. ALBERT ROBERTS.

My Dear Roberts, —Cambridge tells mo you object to going to the mouth of the river Hakatere because of the j notice on the gate, " For Licensed j Anglers Only." Do not worry about it.; the twenty acres enclosed there is absolutely the properly of A. H. Shury and J. M. Cambridge. 1 cannot show you the deed, as Ac-land has it; but i can assure you 1 have a perfect right to put up the notice. Ferriman was under the timw inim'ession that it was a public reserve, and once brought a traction engine and about 400 people m cars to enjoy themselves there, and 1 kept them out. Xexb day Ferriman, who arranged the outing, wanted to know why I ordered the people off a public reserve, and was much astonished when I exhibited the C.T. m my own name. As we were greatly troubled by people coming and using our cookhouse when we wanted it ourselves, 1 got the County Council and drove then* down m the waggonette to inspect, and they purchased twentylour acres a crocs the road and built a brick house for the use of the public, and since then we have not been troubled. The Council also built one at tha other side of the river, and also at Rakaia. I hone this explanation will relieve your feelings, so that yon can enjoy a trip to the beach.—A. H. Shury. 23rd February ,_ 1909.

I fail to see how the foregoing will relieve my feelings; it does not remove the notice on the gate, "For Licensed Anglers Only," I think. Why not say "Private property; trespassers will be prosecxited." If not a rude question, who found" the money to pay for the land that you hold the certificate of title m your name and Mr J. M. Cambridge ? Was it all foiind by licensed anglers only ? And is it really yours, or are you representing a society ? I did not allude to it being a public reserve. I note that Mr Acland holds the title ; is it going to be transferred ? What k the position as to tenure of those who have built there ? If the land is for sale, I may yet be able to form a syndicate, which would have a nice thing m ground rents coming m. ALBERT ROBERTS.
