ANNUAL SHOW.
The annual show m connection with the Ashburton Horticultural Society was held m the Oddfellows' Hall today. As a result of the favourable season, the quality of the blooms shown was very line; each of the numerous classes was well represented, and a number of the exhibitors competed for the first time. The fruit section was I well filled, and for the most part the fruit shown was of very good quality, although several classes were weak and m tlie.se the quality of the fruit was inferior, chiefly m consequence of disease. The iable decorations and arranged flowers formed an artistic display, and the show, taken as a whole, was V:vil uj) to any of its predecessors. Vegetables made a. very inviting display, some of the entries being exceptionally fine and well-grown. Mr \\\ .Hayliss (Christchurch) judged the Mowers. Mr G. T. Smith (Ashburton) the vegetables, and Mr " Geo. Uiiiidy (.Asliliiirton) home industries. There ivn.i only a moderate attendance dining the afternoon,, but the committee- expect a liberal share of public support this evening.
