HAMPSTEAD TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Hampdtead Town Board was held last even- , ing. Present—Messrs Wm. Thompson (m the chair), T. O'Carroll, Andrew Topping, S. Wilson, W. Cunningham, G. \V. Andrews, R. Lewie. Legal advice was received from the Borough solicitor (Mr Orbell) on certain points submitted to him with reference to the Board taking over a private road. . On the motion of Mr O'Carroll, it was resolved to inform Mr Fitzgerald that his contract with the Board is cancelled. Mr H. H. Fooks, Secretary to the Cemetery Board, wrote stating that the Board having discovered that it could legally expend a portion of its funds m asphalting a footpath to the cemetery, it was now prepared to do so. The Hampstead Town Board was asked to place before the Cemetery Board such'information as they were able to obtain "as to what proportion of the cast of the work would be borne by tho owners and occupiers of properties fronting on the footpath. Mr Andrews said ho had interviewed a number of those concerned m the lormation of the footpath, and most had been quite willing to bear a percentage of the cost. The secretary was instructed to inform the Cemetery Board that owners of properties fronting on the footpath had, almost without exception, agreed to pay half the cost of asphalting. Mr E. J. Hughes wrote asking if it was the intention of the Board to construct a bridge across the Mill stream on the road leading to Princess Street.—Resolved to inform the writer that the bridge, as previously agreed, should be erected by Mr Ride, also that Mr Hughes be asked to present a petition'signed by interested ratepayers requesting that the bridge be constructed. The following transfers were sanctioned: Lot 41" D.P. 74 pt R.S. 5800, containing 2 roods, from James "Vi iliiams to John "Williams. Mr (,i. Bright reported on the work lone during the pa.st month as follows: The ford en tho South Eoad had been lcepened, and thistles and noxious weeds had been cleaned from King's Street, Bruceficld Avenue and Nelson Street. There was a stoppage m the watef race on Mra Williams's property, which frequently caused the water to overflow into the street. This needed attention. Attention was drawn to the practice of traction engine drivers, who followed m the ruts of other engines on the Board's roads. The Board was asked to have some gravel screened for use on tho footpaths. It was stated that motor cycling on the footuaths was now becoming common and the Board was asked to enforce its bylaws. On the motion of Mr O'Carroll, it was decided to' insert a notice m the daily papers, warning cyclists against riding on footpaths within the town district, and it was also resolved that the dayman and inspector be instructed to take tho names of all those offending against the by-law with a view to prosecution. It was left with tho Works Committee to determine what should be done with regard to a supply of screened gravel for the footpaths. Tho inspector reported the sanitary condition of the town to be very good. There had been very little sickness and those cases that did exist were not very serious. Dog collars were .■K'lling fairly well. The- water races had been cleaned at all the crossing's, hut few property owners had cleaned the races running through there properties. There had been very lew stray cattle, but several complaints had been received about cattle being herded on the roads. Pig styes had been kept fairly clean, the game remark applying to fowl houses. The report was adopted. On the motion of Mr Andrews the Works Committee was asked to go into the question of 'lighting the town and report at the next meeting of the Board. Accounts amounting to £35 7s 8d wore passed for payment and the Board rose.
