A CONSTABLE ASSAULTED.
TIMARU, February 23. Two men, ono of whom is J. Leckie, the well-known middle-weight boxer, were arrested at Washdyke this morning on a charge of assaulting Constable Collins, at Pleasant Point yesterday. T'.ie constable was proceeding to arrest Leckie m a hotel bar, when the latter et-uek him m the face. Two other pv_«:sons went to Leckie'.s assistance, and the constable was severely handled and eventually overpowered. Leckio got away. The third man has not yet been arrested.
