HARVEST IN THE METHVEN DISTRICT.

Harvest operations m the Methven and surrounding districts are (says our correspondent) being carried out m a most expeditious manner. Indeed, every available man has been engaged, and, should the weather continue favourable, very little grain -will be left unstacked m the course of a week or ten days. "With the exception of a few paddocks of unusually late-soWn crops, the grain is all m the stook, and from, "Winchmore to Methven the country is studded with quite a forest of stacks. Recognising the condition of the grain, farmers are exhibiting good judgment m stacking, and comparatively little wheat has been threshed from the stook. On the other hand, every machine is engaged m threshing oats from the stook, and some very fine yields have been recorded. On Mr I). G. Holmes's Mount Harding estate, Dun oats have been threshed which yielded well over 80 bushels per acre. The yields of oat crops on the Bushy Park estate are' also equally abundant. Judging by a few paddocks of wheat? that have- been threshed from the stook around Methven, the yields, although considerably above the average, will not turn out up to the fullest expectations. On the Springfield estate, and, m fact, on all the surrounding farms, stacking is m full swing, and harvesting is just as far advanced m the locality as it is m the lower-lying districts.
