SECOND DAY.

The following concludes our report of the second day's trotting:— MITCHAM HANDICAP (Saddle), of 55 soys; second horso to receive 5 soys from stake. For unhopplod trotters that can do 5.30 or better. Two miles. Mr A. J. Usher's eh g Naughty Child by Rothschild-Mungo Park, ISsec (T. W. Price) 1 Mr J. Lorgelly's b.m. Mary Lincoln 4sec, (F. Holmes) 2 Mr G. F. Robinson's eh m Pylades 19sec . (T. Frost) 3 Master Tracy 16sec, and Jim Tracy 23sec, also started. Turk was scratched. Naughty Child led for the whole distance, having a lead of about 100 yards off Pylades till taking the bend into the straight for home, when Mary Lincoln, who had been gradually gaining on Pylades, took second place. From this the race became interesting, and Mary Lincoln, gaining rapidly on the leader, was only beaten by half a head, the third horse being about 100 yards away. Time smin 7 l-ssec. ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB'S HANDICAP (harness), of 110 soys. For horses that can do smin or better. Two miles. Mr A. Sydney's b m Miss Florrie C, by Wildwood—D.l.C., llsec (M. Edwards) 1 Mr W. Frederick led for a mile, and passing the stand for the first time he was followed by Curfew Bell, Miss Florrie C, and Lady Lylian. Shortly after, when turning out of the straight, Miss Florrie C. ran into second place, and m the back straight she and Frederick werl trotting neck and neck. Miss Florrie C. soon after went to the front, and m a good finish won by two lengths from Fusee, who was about eight lengths m advance of St. Simon. Time, 4min 48sec. SECOND AMATEUR HANDICAP (optional), of 25 soys. All horses nominated by ladies. One iuile and a half. Miss E. C. Wood's blk m Princess Joy, by Prince Imperial—Mountjoy, 27sec (Mr E. C. Wood) 1 Mrs A. C. Cameron's gr g Jolly Tom, Msec (Mr A. C. Cameron) 2 Mrs Richmond's eh g Roy C, 29sec A.C. and Ruby S. were scratched. Princess Joy led all the way, and won by twelve lengths, Roy C. being' over a' furlong behind Jolly Tom. Time, 4min 10 2-ssec. STEWARDS' HANDICAP (harness), of 55 soys. For horses that can do 4.5 or better. One mile and a half. Mr J. Smith's blk f Ruby S., by Prince Imperial, 22sec (Owner) 1 Mr J. Shearman's eh g Urgent, 20sec (J- Brankin) 2 Mr J. Williamson's br g Prince Gift, 13sec (H. Bebbington) a Quincey 3sec also started. Miss Florrie C. and Naughty Child were scratched. This race had to be run a second time, owing to an error on the part of the starter, who started the horses a minute and a half before the programme time. When this was discovered, it was decided to have the race, as provided for m the rules, over again, and it was ran almost immediately after the Farewell Handicap. Ruby S. had a good lead from the commencement, and won easily by ten lengths, about fifty yards dividing the second and third horses. Time, 3mm 56sec. AUTUMN HANDICAP (Saddle), of 60 soys; second horse to receive 5 soys from stake. For horses that can do 5.15 or better. Two miles. Mr H. F. Nicoll's b g Turk, by George M. Patchen—Magic, 3secs (A. Pringle) 1 Mr A. Curragh's b h Havelock, 2secs (F. Holmes) 2 Mr J. Lorgelly's b m Mary Lincoln, 7sec (T. Annett) 3 Nellie H. scr, Kelso, 3sec, and Sydney 9sec also started. Turk led all the way, and won by about fifty yards, six lengths dividing the second and third horses. Time, 4min 55 l-ssec. FAREWELL HANDICAP (Optional), of 50 soys; second horse to receive 5 soys from stake. One mile and three furlongs. Mi< A. J. Lawrence's b g Agesemos, by Electioneer —Miss Trace-y, 16sec (M. Edwards) 1 Mr T. Logan's br g Caberfeigh, 9sec (A. Wilson) 2 Mr G. L. Ironside's b g Master Dudley, scr (F. Holmes) 3 Nimrod scr, Black" Pride llsec, Lonsdalo 12see, Princess Lily 13sec, and Red Maid 19sec also started. Jolly Tom was scratched. At the end of three furlongs Agesemos had the lead, a position he maintained till the finish, winning easily by three lengths from Caberfeigh, who was twelve lengths m advance of Master Dudley, third. Time, 3min 41 3-5 sec.

After the Autumn Handicap Te Rangi was sold by auction to Mr T. Matherson, of Mitcham, for £25, and Turk was sold to Mr H. Thompson, of Christchurch, for £36.
