ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
CHRISTCHURCH, February 20. Mr A. Burkitt, storekeeper, South Malvern, was tho victim ot a serious trap accident at Coalgate on Thursday afternoon. While he was at a house transacting business, his horse and trap were left unattended at the gate. A tract ing engine passing while Mr Burkitt was some distance away, caused the animal to take fright/and it I attempted to bolt. Mr Burkitt was quickly m pursuit and while he was mounting the trap a sudden swerve 1 throw him to the ground. Ho was picked tip unconscious and conveyed to his house, and on arrival of Dr Simpson, of Dnrfielcl, it was found he waa suffering from a slight fracture of the left side of the skull, and a nasty scalp wound, besides being badly, bruised about the body. The sufferer partly gained conciousness yesterday, and hopes are entertained that he will shortly recover completely.
