HAMPSTEAD AND SANITATION

To the Editor . Sir, —The local body in Hampstead —to wit, tho Hampstead Town Board —apparently aspire to . emulate the heroic deeds and aspirations of a philosopher. If philanthropy is their aim and object, I wish them success; but in private life some members of local bodies do not manifest much philanthropy in their dealings' with their fel-low-man —their chief concern then is to make what they call a good bargain, with profit for themselves. The keeping of pigs is apparently profitable, so pigs are kept by several residents, and should the Town Board frame by-laws forbidding the keeping of pigs in the district, this would cause opposition on the part of. those persons interested; in fact, some members of the Board might oppose such a measure if it affected their own interests or profit. Sir, I protest also against heaps of garbage, decaying vegetables, etc., in a district which report says is in a sanitary condition RATEPAYER.
