OPENING OF CENTRAL MISSION HALL.
! There was a large attendance last night at the tea, and public meeting in connection with the formal opening of the new Mission Hall, on Cass and Wills streets. Six tables, which had been prettily decorated by Miss Vesty, ' were presided over by Mesdames Readhead, J. Smith, Harvey, Chisnall, Manifold, Brunton and Munson, and Misses Palmer, Neill, Vesty, Ware tind Brown, who had numerous assis- ■. tauts. Mr G. Manifold, the minister of the church, who was in the chair, mentioned that during the past few months, since its organisation, nearly £400 had passed through the church treasury, £200 having been paid on the building allotment. The new Mission Hall had cost £170 to erect, and £40 had been saved in wages by means of a working bee. under the leadership of Messrs W..Olsen and Pickford. Tho presentation of a very handsome pulpit 1 desk by Mr and Mrs W. Olsen was greeted with hearty applause. Mr ■ Roht. Houston, on behalf of several of the friends and members of tho congregation, presented to the choir leader a silver-mounted baton, and a leatherbound copy of Sankey's Hymns. Mr W. J. Hastie, minister of tho Church of Christ in Dunedin, and MiRalph Gebbie, minister, from Christchurch, and T. H. Mathieson, M.A.. of { Oamaru, gave cordial and stimulating addresses/Recitations were given by Mr Clark and Miss Buttrick; solos by Miss Brown aud Messrs Trounce'and Osborne. Tho choir and the school children rendered several pieces under the leadership of Mr J..- Readhead and ( Mr G Osborne, and the singing of the Doxology brought the meeting to a ! Close. '
