Kettle, 5.M.,. ; during the hearing of a claim for com- ' mission to-day respecting the sale of an hotel. "I'm afraid not,".replied Mr J. R. Reed, solicitor for plaintiff. ."It ought to,", said the Magistrate; "that course is followed in other centres/" "I wish it were here," said plaintiff; "it would be a great convenience." A little later another witness, Mr William Mowbray, was asked why the Chamber of Commerce did not fix commission rates. He replied, "I don't think they touch hotel work at all." "Wquki .it not be well to get the rates clearly defined?" "I have often thought of that. Still, there are always men without offices' .who go loafing and cadging round other offices trying to pick up other people's customers and will offer to do the work for £10." "Why not incorporate yourselves as ,;n association, and secure lucres?" "I would like!to see that, even if the licenses cost £40 a year."
