Longbeach School Congkrt.—A concert in aid of the prize fund of ffche Ijongbeach School, was held in the Schoolroom on Monday eyening, and, the evening being fine, there was'a large attendance. Mr N. March, Chairman of the School Committee, presided, and a lengthy programme wns gone through. This consisted of Bonn;.', duets, instrumental selections, and action songs from the school children, together with an exhibition of scarf drill by the same. The various items were well given, and were much appreciated, and encores were numerous. The most pleasing part of the programme was perhaps the items given by the school children, who had been prepared by the school mistress, Mise Davidson, and the manner in which tho children acquitted themselves was creditable alike to themselves and their teachers. The following contributed to the programme j —Pianoforte s,oloe ; Miss McK;»y and Misses Dovo, Gluyas (2) ; cornet boL'S, Mr Gluyas; solos, Messrs Cook, Malcolm, Howison, T. Davidson, and Misses Watsof (2), Hoskings, Davidson, E. Gluyas ; ecarf drill, coon song, and fan song by school children, duet by Misses Watson. A vote of thanks to all who had assisted in tho concert was moved by Mr Gollins, aud carried by acclamation. Misses McKay, Watson (2), and Dove acted as accompanists. The concert was closed with a verse of the National Anthem. A dance followed, and was kept up with some spirit for several hours, the Longbeach String Band providing the music.
The Fishing Season—Anglers who have had any experience at the mouths of the rivers have found to their sorrow that the minnows obtainable in New Zealand were nob well oaough mounted and also too weak for large &sk. Therefore, fishermen will be pleased to Icnow they can now obtain strongly mounted minnows (which have been made to order), also the best quality lines, rods, waders, traces, etc., and fishing licenses at Johnston's Fishing Tackle and Cycle Depot, Burnett Street.—* (Adv?.)
