An infant niraed Mavis L^wis, four months ol'S daughter of Mrs E. Lewis, a pas?pnger to Lyttelton by thi s.s. Eotonnhana, died on board that vessel shortly before her arrival at Lyttelton yesterday morning. The child had been suffering from bronchitis. ;
Gisborne, Aug 25 James Allan, who was found unconscious on the road-iido on Tuesday evening, died in the hospital the following night.
At the inquest on the I ody of James Allen, the jury relume'! a verdict that he •met his .death by ft falljfcom a horse while in a state of intoxication. The police evidence was that when the man was picked up he appeared to ba drunk. He h\d been visited in the cell several times during tho night, and prior to being seized with a fit about 1 a.m, there was no mdi jvtion that h? had been injured seriously by tho fall from his horse.
Hamilton Aug. 21 A mun named Devonport, who was hicking alone in tho bush near Taumarunui, w 3 killed by a log falling on him. The aoaidout must have happened yesterday af r«rno?n. The hndy was found this iminicg pinned on the ground by the log Tho man was- unmarried.
