—■——■■—■■ Father Hays.—The No-License Council has been informed that the date of Father Hays' visit to Ashburton has keen altered to April 26th. Water Sufelt.—Owing to the Wakanui creek water supply being shut off for over a week or so, the Eettlers near that stream and in the Wakanui district generally, were much inconvenienced for a supply of water. Mr Thomas Rollitt, proprietor of the Wakanui Roller Flour Mills, was approached, and generously agreed to allow the County Council to draw a supply from his river intake to meet the requirements of the settlers—thereby necessitating his mills running on short time. Freezing Rates.—lt is understood that the two meat freezing companies in Canterbury have issued a circular intimating that, owing to the small supplies of Btock for freezing coming to hand, and to the extra cost of working the factories! through the increased rates of wages and the conditions imposed by the decisions of the Arbitration Court, the summer rates for freezing will be continued till May 21st, and after that date winter rates will be introduced. These latter rates will be, it is understood, on the basis of gd for mutton, Id for lamb, and 15-I6th for tegs, all less 5 per cent.
