SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Upon a cursory perusal of Salvo Jure's letter .in last night's issue I was taken off my guard for the moment. But upon a more careful and . thoughtful reading I was able to see through the cunningly concealed deception in President Edward's,; masterly reasoning. This eminent *logioian says ", that the Fourth Commandment only • requires that after working six days the next shall be a day of rest." So then, the question of which day should be kept, depends upon whichever day of the week a man thinks fit to select for the commencement of his six days' wort. So much for President Edward. Anyone oan see that such masterly reasoning, if put into practice, would result in confusion worse confounded. Therefore it behoves those of us who are assured that we know better, to see to it that we are not caught by sophistry. The lame theory of a distinction between Christian and Jewish Sabbath has been long since exploded. If anyone will turn to the book of Exodus, chapter 20, he or she can there read for themselves that it was THE (capitals mine) Seventh day that was blessed, and that the Commandment calls that day NOT the Jewish Sabbath but the Sabbath of tbe Lord thy God. Is He the God of the Jews only ? If not, then " Salvo Jure " stands condemned. Says your correspondent" Our friends have but an incomplete idea of the nature and love of God, if they think he is calling them to make a sacrifice, etc. Ah! there's the rub. But is not the Christian life a sacrifice from beginning to end ? If it is not so in Salvo Jure's case, then he has but an incomplete idea of the nature and love of God. I, too, am glad that one of our local ministers intends giving an address on the matter in the near future and I trust that will be before the Seventh Dpy Adventists break up their camp and leave us.—l am, etc.,
Fidei Defensor,
