Christchurch Meat Company.

The following is the annual report of! fcher Cbristchurch Meat Company, to be presented to the shareholders at the annual meeting on the 17th inst: —"The directors have pleasure in submitting the balance-sheefc and profit and loss account for the year ending 31st October, 1904. The result of tho year's business has been satisfactory. The closest attention has been given to the careful distribution and realisation of our products.' The fire at Islington necessitated the building of new tallow, manure, and other works, which have been erected in the most substantial manner, with the • latest; - labour-saving machinery. A complete installation of electric power has also been , placed in Islington, resulting in considerable* economies. A freehold site has been purchased, and new head offices have been. erected theroon for the bonduct of the company's business. The accident insurance-' reserve has been increased to ;£2103 4s 2d.. The amount of £12,000 has been written, off against renewals and replacements. Ample provision has been made for the .future in the valuation of the assets. The directors have placed the sum of ,£IO,OOO to-' the reserve fund, making the account .£24,. 000. An interim dividend at the rate of 4 per cent, for the half year ending 30th. April, 1904, was paid, amounting to £5249 9s 3d The balanoe, .£11,486 8s sd, remains to bo ~ dealt with. The directors recommend that & dividend of 4 per ce*nt.» making 8 peccent, for the year should be paid, amounting to .£5292 4s lOd, leaving, the amount 0f... J36194 38 7d to be carried forward.
