As far as can be ascertained nothing definite hag yet been decided on by the Department. In the event of the shed being removed, it would be advisable to shift it further to the north, so as not to block the Wills Street approach to the station. Seventh Day Adventists. —The meetings conducted at the Camp of the Seventh Day Adventists m the Domain are being well attended by the public, and much interest has been so far taken m the various addresses delivered by the pastors. Last evening an interesting address was delivered on the Prophecies of the Scriptures, the fulfilment of which were traced up to a comparatively recent d\te by the speaker. It i 3 understood that the Adventists aram every way satisfied with the interest they have already aroused sinoe their visit to Ashburton. Land Values.—Aa showing the increased values of land, it may be said that a farm m the Riverside district, consisting of a portion of broken land, was recently disposed of at £20 per acre. This farm a few years back ' could have been publicly purchased at i about £IQ per acre. The Government valuations for Borough properties are also to hand, and are greatly m excess of the prices originally .paid for the land. One section for which .£l3O was paid over three years ago is valued at £200, and another, which cost the present owner .£7O, about six years ago, is valued at .£2OO. These are fair samples of tho increase m the value of town sections. A Matter of FrNANCE.~On Monday at the Borough Council meeting Cr Friedlander produced a plan of an ornamental pavilion which tho Sports Association propose should be erected m the Domain. The Sports' Association's naive proposal that a Id per head psll t«x be imposed on excursionists visiting Ashburton, and collected by the Railway Department, being received unfavourably, a number of suggestions •were made by Councillors a? to how the money could bo raised. Cr Friedlander gravely suggested that the Mayor celebrate his second term of office by donating the whole sumnecessary for the construction of the pavilion, . The Mayor did not exactly see the matter m this light, but said that if the Chairman of the Sports Association could raise he had little doubt the Council could amongst them raise another .£IOO. Cr Timmins suggested, as a means of raising the wind, that the Domain Board let tenders for refreshment booths m the Domain on the occasion of picnics and sports. A discordant note was struck by another Councillor, who said that if the pavilion were built, the Board would have to employ someone to look after it. The meeting then broke up without anything definite being settled m the matter. Where to get the Best Value.—The first thing to consider when you require a new bicycle is not where you can get the cheapest bicycle because cheapness always means shoddiness. A Beeston Humber at £22 or a Rudge-Whitworth at 18 guineas is the best value m the -world. Twenty five of these machines to choose from at Johnston's Cycle Depot, Burnett Street, Ashburton. ■
