Egcj Laying Cohpetition.—An egg laying competition will commence at Blenheim on May 1. The entrance fee for each pen is £2 2s, and prize money amounting to £75 will be given. The competition will extend over 12 months. Particulars may be obtained from Mr Graham Griffiths, Secretary, Blenheim. Personal.— Sergeant Fouhy, late of Christchurch, who has been appointed to take charge of the Ashburton police district arrived m Ashburton by this morning's train.—Mr MeechaD, who for twelve months past has occupied the position of physical drill instructor m this town, left; by the first express this afternoon for Lyttelton, en route to Napier. A Coming Picnic—The scholars attending the Lyttelton District High School and the Papanui Public School, together with their parents and friends, intend holding their annual picnic m the Ashburton Domain to-morrow, weather permitting. Over 800 excursionists are expected.
