WANTED A PAVILION.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—l notice \n last night's paper that the D.omain Board did not receive favourably the proposal introduced by Mr Friedlander as that of the Sports Association that the Railway should collect Id a head from all picnickers using the Domain and Sports grounds. A penny a head would

pay interest and sinking fund on & pavilion which could be put up at once—it could have a band stand, seating space, tea room, cooking apparatus, and dressing room. If ABhburton had a place like this we should get twice rb many picnickers, each of whom generally spends a little money here. One penny collected by the Railway would not be felt by picnickers, and the extra advantages would be a good return to th«ui for ■.-.'• their money. The local Clubs would be [ satisfied, or ought to be. Now they are not, as they have to maintain tho groundH for outsiders. And it is the local Clubs, that is the people here, who have made the Domain popular. Only compare the Domain of to-day with ten years ago, when it was a perfect boar garden. Why should the local people maintain the Domain for outsiders who can afford to pay for it aa well as wo ? Ashburton would become more popular with picnic parties if there were advantages here for them, and the town would get a pavilion and band stand for nothing.—l am, etc., . • Progress.
