Willowby School Treat.

The annual treat siven to the scholars attending the Willowby public school was held in' the playground j'esterday afternoon. Although the morning broke wet, and m my anxiou3 eyes wore cast skyward during the day, the weather cleared up sufficiently to enable the Committee to carry out the function successfully.

After tea, which was served in the school room, the children adjourned to the play ground, where a number of races were run, the prize* for which were keenly competed for, and after the chairman had 'scrambled' a tin of lollies, the company adjourned to the school. An excellent programme consisting of songs and recitations had been prepared and was successfully rendered. i The Chairman commented favourably on the successful year's work that; had been done by rhe teacher and bespoke the hearty co-operation of the parents in his arduous work. Considerable interest was taken in the needlework of the school, and which had been judged by Mesdames Harding and Gray bum, who expressed their satisfaction with the excellent work that had been accomplished, the quality of which was so i uniform that they had experienced great difficulty in arriving at their decisions.

The prize list is as follows:—Standard Vl—Fanny Chapman; Standard V—Kdith Watson, Rachel Stoddart 2, Ethel Robertson 3 ; Standard IV —Ida Chapman and Winnie Wallis (equal); "Standard 111 - O'ive Watson 1, Doris Ashton 2; Standard 11-—RetaStoddart 1, Maiy I'onnal 2; Standard F—Winnie Watson 1, Ethel Ash ton 2, Myrtle Bnt'eriek 3.

Each child in the schc ol was also presented with a valuable book, and special prizes wore awarded for regular attendance, the successful ones being Fanny Chapman, Ida Chapman, Sam Osborne, Rebecca Lill, Edith Watson, and Stephen Lill, tho last three having made the possible number of attendances.

Votes of thanks to the teachers and judges of the sewing were carried enthusiastically, and the singing of a verse of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close.
