United Press Association—By Eleotric Telegraph. Auckland, Dec, 28 On Sunday morning (Xmas Day), an official visit was paid by Inspector Cullen to the Working Men's Club in Queen Street, It is alleged 30 or 40 men were f< und on the premises. About h«lf of these were in one of the rooms, and liquor was in the room. The other half weie in the reading room, where there w>»B no liquor. A similar visit was paid to the Masonic Club in Durham Street-, but no persons were found there with the exception of the official in charge.
Gisborne, Deo. 28. The young man named Frank Marsden, who was injured at Muriwai races on Monday, died without recovering consciousness. He was riding in the hurdle race on the beHch, when his horse, being deceived by the Bbadow of a hurdle on the sand, took off too soon, and landed on top of the obstacl", Marsden falling on his head. Marsden was an Australian, and served in South Africa with one of the contingents. Wanganui, Dec. 28
In thfl shooting match yesterday Wanganui Irish liifles v Wellington Navals at 500 yds and 600 yds, eight, men aside, the former scored 601, and Wellington 587. In the match Zealandia ?iifles (Wellington), v Wanganui Highland Rifles the former scored 563 and the ktter 551.
The cricket match Taranaki v Wanganui was won by the latter by an innings and 141. runs Taranaki scorej| 100 and 38. Wanganui scored 277 fors|?'ve wickets and then declared their innings closed. In the second innings of Taranaki L. Cave took six wickets for twelpe ruup.
