Farewell Social at Waterton.

A very pleasant social evening was spent in the Waterton Library Hall on Thursday evening last, the occasion being a farewell and presentation to Miss"'Whitta, on her severing her connection with the Longbeach district. Miss Whitta Ins reaidod ip the disi rict for over eighteen mon' hs as mistress of the Longbeach School, during whioh time she has carried out those duties very acceptably. She has also been ready to assist with any social function that has been held in the district. During the evening Mr T. We'ton presented Miss Whitta, on behalf of the subscribers, with a handsome silver,afternoon tea set.

Miss Whitta, on rising to respond, was vociferously applauded. She thanked those present for % their handsome present and kindness to her while she had been among them.

During the evening the following contributed items : —Misses B. Weston, V. Watson, S. Shearer, E. Dakere, and Messrs W. Stephens and Ferguson. The following supplied the music: - Misses A Weston, C. Gollins, and M. Johps, r.nd Messrs Ferguson, Jamieson, Weston, Mcliauchlan, and Howi; pon. The duties of M.C. were performed by Messrs W. Muir and W. J. Smith. The gath'©riQtj J'/fokia up at an early hour.

On Thursday aFterjjocn the children of the Longbe eh School presented Miss Whitfca with a cheese dish and a pair of jam dishes. Miss Whitta briefly and feelingly thanked the children for their handsoti;9 :vnd unexpected presents.
