Horticultural Society.

A meeting of th 9 Committee of the Ashburton Horticultural Society was held va Monday evening-, to wind up matters in connection with the late show. Accounts

(including prize money) amounting to over £50 were passed for payment, while a rough balance sheet showed that after payment of all liabilities a credit balance of about £26 remained. This is approximately the amount which the Society had in hand before the show, so that the receipts have just balanced the expenditure. The secretary was authorised to pay out all prize money during the coming week, and prize winners may now obtain the amounts due them on application to the secretary (Mr J. Nicholas). It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of the Society on March 16th next. The attendance at the late show was much larger than on any previous occasion. The price money was larger also, but unfortunately the membership for the past year has been weaker than usual, the funds of the Society suffering thereby. Had it not been for this fact, there would probably have been a substantial profit from the late show, However, several new members have been nominated for the coming year, and, with the increased interest which the general public are evincing in horticulture, the Society should have a very successful future before it.
