Following a rainless night, with a fine morning and a good drying wind, tho wicket i 3 fast improving. The " Herald " says the wicket yesterday was undoubtedly bad, but in the light of the subsequent exhibition by the Englishmen, the performance of the Australians was disappointing. It was a case of getting runs or getting out, so that tho Englishmen might have a taste of the wicket while it remained a quagmire. They were dismissed trying to play with the bowling which was not hit. When the Englishmen came in the wicket, which was a rapidly improving one, was so slow and easy that it took all the fire and pace out of Trumble's and Noble's attack.

The "Telegraph" siys everybody expected to see half a dozen of the Englishmen's wickets down for a few runs. Haywurd's and Foster's stand was a grand performance, and altogether changed the aspect of affairs.
