Japanese in Korea.
Dash for Strategic Positions
London, Feb. 23
A correspondent of the " Times," after visiting Chemulpho, states that Japan is landing an army corps, and establishing depots, north ward, to facilitate an early generaladvance to Pingyang. British officers declare that the Japanese methods of disembarkation are an improvement on anything they have seen. Prompt p^yment for supplies is obliterating the Koreans' animosity. A further change of base to Chinampho is expected when the forces at Pingyang are sufficient to cover the risk of of any sudden Russian descent. Russian scouts are already at Anga. There are signs that the Japanese contemplate an immediate dash for a strategic position in Northern Korea. Japan's original scheme was to land at Masampho, and march ncrth through Korea, but directly she achieved a naval success at Port Arthur, the base was ohanged to Chemulpho. Several persons have been hanged for trying to destroy the Sungari River Bridge in Manchuria.
