Fairfiew Employees' Smoke Concert.
A smoke concert was held last night in the Templar Hall, a large number of the Fairfiold employees, who came ia for the cricket match, and others taking part. The programme for the evening comprised vocal itetn3 and stepdance3 by various members of the gathering, which was of an extreme!y convivial character. Various toasts -were honoured, amongst them being "The King/ "Fairfiold," "The Winning Team," "The Losing Team," "The Press," etc., which were duly responded to. The following are some of the item 3of the progiamme : —Songs—Messrs C. Traill, B. Baker, T. Clark, R, Mcßeth, W. Harris, J. Gentiles, R. Harrison, E. Rudkin, F. Foulk, W. Pilcher, M. O'Connor, M. Gallagher, M. Sullivan, J. Hanniyran, McPherson, Hickson, 'Freeman and Harper; Scottish hornpipe, W. Liodsay ,• breakdown, J. Johns. The accompaniments were very nicely played by Mr B. Gilchrist. The chairman proposed the tonst of "The Fairfield Works," briefly describing the beneSts conferred on the farming population and tha community generally by the establishment of the factory, and expressing the ,?ood fealiDg which existed both between the Company and their employees, and the Company and the farming community. In the absence of Mr Traill, senr., Mr O. Traill responded to the toast, endorsing the previous speaker's remarks, and stating th,aj he was pleased to see that such cordial feeling existed between ths Company and their employees as had been shown by the manner in which the toast had been honoured.
The gathering was brought to a olose about 10.30 p.m.
