Cricket.
The opening match of the season took place on the Domain Oval yesterday afternoon, between teams representing the Ashburton Cricket Club and the Tennis Club. The ground was still rather soft to play on, which determined somewhat against high scoring. A noticeable feature of the game was the return of the veteran Mr D ivid Thorn,as, wh.o donned flannels for the cricket dub, The Tenni3' Club made 94 in their Ist inning?, and the Cricket Club 47. The second innings will be played next Thursday. For the Tennis Club, Seldon (22), C. P. Salmond (19), W. Bmck (13), and C. Denshire (10), scored double figures, while for the Cricket Club J. Brown (12), was the only double figure contributor. Bowling analyses are as follows: For the Tennis Club, Seldon G wickets for 18, E. F. Nicoll 4 for 22 ; f.;r the Cricket Club, Brown 2 for 14, and Orr 3 for Z2.
