The Balkan Trouble.

Melbourne, Oct 1. In the Federal House, Mr Cook (SewSouth Wales) suggested that Wr Deakin should cable a protest to the Imperial authorities against the Balkan atrocities. Mr Deakin said he was perfectly sure Australia unanimously sympathised with a desire that these tragedies should speedily he ended. He hesitated, however, to cable an expression of sympathy in case it might be tiken as an indication that the people in the Home Country and in Europe were not just as alive as our own to the unhappy condition of things.

Sofia, October 1

Reports state that a majority of the Christians at Eazlog have beeu massacred. Forty insurgents, woll posted at Pirin, were attached by Turkish troops, of whom they killed and wounded 200 during a five hours' fight. . The insurgents' casualties were nominal.

Vienna, Oct. 1. The Czar has arrived on a visit to Vienna.

At luncheon at the Royal Palace of Schonnbrunn cordial speeches were delivered by the Emperor and the Czsr, the hope being expressed that the complete harmony of their views was an earnest of thesucewss of their efforts to settle the Macedonian trouble.

The Czar emphasized the humanitarian aim they were jointly pursuing, urging firmness and perseverance in the pursuance of the method most fitted to ensure real and permanent pacification|an d the strenthening of general peace.
