Shooting Match.
A rifle shooting match took place yesterday on the Lagmhor range between teams from the Mounted Eifles and the Ashburton Rifle Volunteers. The match proved to be one of,the mo-t exciting ever fired in Ashburton. In the, early stages of the match the infantry men showed, to much advantage, some tall scoring taking place kt the short range. At the longer range, however, the Mounted Rifles showed much superiority, and steadily gained on their opponents. The lead obtained by the Rifle Volunteers held them in good ttead, and enabled them to win by the narrow margin of 3 points. Following are the scores:—
