The evidence showed the child was still born, and tbat the parents of the mother, a single girl, were not aware they were breaking the law. A verdict was returned that there was not the slightest suspicion of any unlawful means having been resorted to bring about the result. Auckland, June 28 A Maori girl named Mere Ihaka, 15 years of age, was buried alive at Ahipara. She went fco sleep m a cave dug out of a sand bank, and her dead body was dug out by the natives. Wellington, June 28 An inquest was held at Otaki on the death of Dorothy Drake, aged 7£ years, ■when a verdict was returned that death was due to a shock, the result of a severe whipping administered by the deceased's mother. The mother Harriet Drake, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and remanded.
