ROYAL VISIT TO IRELAND.

Tlie Queen and the Irish Kegiments

A Grateful Tribute

United Press Association—By Eleotrlo Telegraph,—Copyright. London, March 8

The Queen will stay at Buckingham Palace from today until Saturday, While visiting Ireland she will reside at the Vice-Regal Lodge in Dublin.

The Queen hag ordered the ranks of the Irish Kegiments in future to wear, oa St. Patrick's Day, a sprig of shamrock in their head dress. The order has been made to commemorate the gallantry of the Irish Regiments serving in South Africa.

Irish newspapers are uniformally respectf al to Her Majesty, and cordially acknowledge the Queen's courage in braving, at her advanced age, the rough channel. Several express a hope that her visit will be the prelude to the extension of Home Rule.

Mr Redmond, in the House of Commons, expressed the Irish gratifica tion at jfche Shamrock badge being awarded to the Irish regiments. He said it was a graceful recognition of their valour in the field. The venerablp govereigrt would receive chivalrous hospitality in Ireland, but that would not imply any abatement of the Home Rule demands.
