A GOLD BRICK

West Coasters are nothing if not enthusiastic. The Greymouth Star of a teceut date has the following :—To-day, with the belts in town pealing forth their notes of joy &b the relief of Ladysmith, it will not be uninteresting to oar readers, to learn that the • Gold Brick' subscribed for by the inhabitants of Greymeuth, has been manufactured, and will ba forwarded on te General Sir G S White, who has so persiatently and gallantly defenfted Ladyßmith, during the last three months. This brick in question ia two inches long by one inch broad by half an inch thick and contains 3cz< of West Coast gold. On the face are engraved the following words :—" To General SIrGS White.VC, GOB.GUS, IGC JE. Defender of Ladysmitb." The reverse side has the words :—"'From Greymouth, N Z, March 1900." Oa one side are written the words, "This ia a brick," on the other «* You're another." This is certainly * more pleasing way of v ing the words • 'You're another" than Colonials •re apt to apply them, A sp.-cial case, enclosing the handsome little recognition, has been made by Mr Shilton of Greymouth, who we may lay, manufactured the jewel. The jewel ia certainty a unique one, and will, we will venture to Gay, be highly prizid by General White. The interesting little article will be on exhibition at the Poft and Telegraph Office to-morrow morning at ten o'clock, a Bection of young colonials having been specially engaged to stand on guard.
