London, March 5 Lord Roberts telegraphed to General White, " Thank God, the nation's prayers have been answered." General Buller reports his casualties from February 14th to 27th amongst the rank and tile totalled 127 killed, 919 wounded, and 57 missing. The chief losses were amongst the following regiments : - East Surrey— 31 killed, 105 wounded. West Surrey —7 killed, 108 wonnded. Lancaster —20 killed, 128 wounded* Devons— 5 killed, 76 wonnded. West Yorkshires—6 killed, 81 wounded. Boyal Fusiliers—2 killed, 57 wounded. All these belonged to the second battalions of the regiments named. The first battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment had 10 killed and 81 wounded, and the Rifle Brigade 11 killed and 79 wounded.

The late besiegers of Ladysmith are recuperating on the Transvaal border. March C Lord Roberts's Sixth and Seventh Divisions and mounted force are south of the Modder River, and the Ninth Division and O»valry Brigade north of the river, where there is plain country, and grass and water are abundant.
