THAT BUILDING !
tO THB EDITOR. Bjß,~-Your correspondent " Alarmed " has called attention to tho erection of a large house at Fairton, which common report smyts is intended for an hotel. The man on the street also *ays that the owner qf the house baa distinctly stated that no lipense will be applied for. Now we shall Bee how far his word can be relied on. " Al&rined " asks, what are the temperance people going to do ? I don't think they will be altogether idle. Bab another question \ might be asked, viz, what are the churches going to do in the matter ? Hardly any one doubta that the opening of an hotel in that new township will be an unapeakab'e evil, and it tho church exists for the prevention of evil, thea surely this is a time when it ought to bsetir itself and do all in its power to prevent the perpetration of an evil of this kind. The election of a licensing com mitfeee takes place this month, and if this mischief it to be prevented, it behoves us to put in men of the right stamp, No halfhearted milk and water men, but men who are out-and-out for the oauso of temperance, and whose vote on thia and other questions can tot relied on.—l am, &o», Hops.
