The civil case heard was Baker v Cairncrosa, £10 16a on a dishonored promissory note, m which judgment went for plaintiff by default. After the civil business his Worship passed on to old age pensions Applications. St Stephen's Church.— The institution ef the Rev R. A. Woodthorpe, M.A., as vicar of Sb Stephen's, Ashburfcon, took place on Tuesday evening, m the presence of a large congregation. The office of institution was conducted by Bishop Julius, assisted by the chaplain, the Rev J. Holland, of Rakaia, and the Rev Dr Abbott* The full Yea&ry also took part m the institution, meeting the Bishop, clergy, and choir at the principal door of the church, and leading them to the chancel. At the close of the institution, the Bishop delivered a powerful and eloquent address on the relations which should exist between the pastor and the members of tbe Church, forcibly impressing upon the parishioners their duties towards their minister, who had voluntarily offered himself as their willing servant and friend for Jesns Christ's sake. Theßishopalso addressed ft few,earnest and touching words of counsel and sympathy to the newly-instituted vicar.
