Sir, — la view of the war now commenced between America and Spain — a struggle of freedom and liberty versus cruelty, bigotry, rapine, and oppression — I append a copy of the battle hymn of the Republic, and trust ib will be interesting to your numerous readers. The poem was written m the early part of theJCivil war m the United States (1861-65), and created a great senaatiom (Dhe author ess was Mrs Julia Ward Howe, of Boston, Mass. — I am, etc, Scotus.
