NEW CALEDONIA.
Sydney Octobet26 The French Consul, who recently returned from New Caledonia, whither he proceeded to discuss the convict question with the Governor, has drawn up a scheme which, if adopted by France, m\l abolish the convict system there m about two years. The Consul declines to state whether such abolition is conditional on France obtaining control of the New Hebrides or part of the group for a penal settlement. The whole question, he says, has been referred to the French Government. The New Caledonian Government has imposed a duty of £2 per head on cattle imported from the Australasian colonies,
